UNUSUAL FOR TABUNG HAJI TO BE INVOLVED IN FOREX TRADING, SAYS WITNESSMmm...ke mana la agaknya duit tu pergi ye? :-p
(Bernama The Malaysian National News Agency Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge) from BERNAMA, The Malaysian National News Agency KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 26 (Bernama) -- Former Tabung Haji board chairman Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Othman told the Sessions Court here today that it was unusual for the body to be involved in foreign exchange (forex) trading.
He said that if there was a proposal to do such trading, the senior Tabung Haji officer preparing the paper had to inform the minister and the chairman.
When asked about an investment of RM150 million by Tabung Haji in forex, he said he did not know that part of the money would be invested.
Abdul Hamid who is now religious advisor to the prime minister, was testifying at the trial of two former Tabung Haji senior general managers, Mohamad Shafie and Mohamed Amin Sidek, charged with cheating him and Brig Jen (R) Datuk Abdul Hamid Zainal Abidin in their capacities as minister in the Prime Minister's Department at the material time.
Mohamad, 56, and Mohamed Amin, 55, were alleged to have committed the offence at the Prime Minister's Department in Putrajaya between June 29 2000 and July 27 2001.
They were also charged with committing criminal breach of trust of RM50,000 and RM150,000 respectively at Bangunan Tabung Haji in Jalan Tun Razak between July 14 2000 and May 11 2001.
The prosecution closed its case today and judge Akhtar Tahir will hear submissions tomorrow.
Deputy public prosecutor Dzulkifli Ahmad appeared for the prosecution while Mohamad was represented by counsel V. Rajadevan and Mohamed Amin, by counsel Fairuz Jaffril.
